It is a kid’s game to connect numbers with a pencil “dot to dot” creating any kind of figure, which was invisible before. Applying this pastime into big scale reality is the aim of a project of the German artist Thomas Huber.

Spor is combining the real, physical landscape with the virtual and abstract description of time and distance.

35 cone objects will be installed before walking in the following along them, resulting in a huge track (“spor”),which is drawing a picture covering about 3000 km 2 of the icelandic highlands. This drawing goes hand in hand with the geographic handicap of the landscape (lake shores, rivers, ground structures, glaciers), so that the track highly depends on the area’s structure.

Using a GPS unit the first step will be to pitch up the numbered cones on exact positions as landmarks, then the 250 km hike will from mark to mark will start. The covered distance will be recorded by the GPS unit very exactly, transferring the data via satellite to the virtual map on the projects webpage (livemap) and to the Infocenter at CIA.IS in Reykjavik as often as possible, so that the progress is able to be pursued. Besides you can have a look at pics and clips, documenting the whole project, as well as diary like news.
